Only Three out of Ten Workers Use Catalan as Their Primary Language
The UGT study warns of a “linguistic emergency” in certain professional environments where Catalan is being relegated to a secondary role. According to the findings, only 33% of the workforce identifies Catalan as their first language of choice for day-to-day operations. This disparity between language knowledge and language usage suggests that while most workers understand Catalan, structural pressures and the lack of habit in the workplace favor the use of Spanish instead.
